TRADITIONAL DANCING - KURUNEGALA

Project Code : CDAN - 100

Project Description:

A traditional cultural centre which promotes both upcountry (Kandyan Dancing) and low country dancing (Pahatharata Dancing).Over 25 young people who live in the village of Narammala and in villages nearby, are attending this Dancing school. The centre conducts Traditional Dancing classes free of charge and many of the poor youth enjoy learning at the centre, because once they are trained ,they can earn their living through this profession.

Experience the power of international service and appreciate the impact that performing arts can make on communities around the world. You’ll directly contribute to many forms of development by focusing on empowerment, self-expression, and self-confidence through music, dance, or theater. Be part of a truly grassroots social movement and see firsthand how performing arts can transform a difficult situation into a tool for inspiration and growth. By reaching out to peoples from marginalized perspectives and participating in an exchange of ideas and experiences, you’ll grow personally and artistically. Take this chance to see how performance can be used for education, social change, and community development.

Once a volunteer is placed at this project, He/she will be able to benefit in the following ways:

  • The volunteers will be able to join the Dancing class and learn about the different Traditional Dancing items.

  • Volunteers can learn how to play different traditional drums and other instruments.

  • Once they learn the different items they will have the opportunity to join the troupe in whatever shows they participate.

  • After training, the volunteers will have the opportunity to organize sports activities in the village for the children who come to the centre after school.

  • They will have the opportunity to organize different creative activities that would be of advantageous to the youth and their families.
